It is a system independent interface to the database.It is a virtual database(data about data).

it provides data for data manipulation and data for data processing. And it is also called 

DDIC and ABAP dictionary.

¨  A report consists of a selection screen on which you define the dataset you wish to display, and a list which displays the data itself.

n  In dialog programming you use the screen painter to create screens and program the sequence in which they appear.

n  The company was founded in 1972 by the five IBM employees.

n  SAP R/3 Software has been developed using ABAP/4 as a programming language.

n  SAP is the ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system that aims to integrate all the different modules (SD,MM,CO,HR etc) in the company. The integration results in consistency of data through out the system and the company as a whole.

              As of 2010, SAP employs over 40,000 people in more than 50 countries.
